Nigeria

The divination corpus that carries the world's ages: Ifá's sixteen ways, and the reckoning of what comes after.

West Africadrafted

Nigeria contributes the Yoruba world-cycle tradition held in the Ifá divination corpus: the universe as a series of ages (orún), each created, lived, and dissolved, whose patterns are consulted through the sixteen major odu. In the Yoruba reckoning the end is not a single event but a rhythm the diviners can read — the same text that names the beginning also carries the account of what follows it.
