The World / North American Indigenous Prophecy
North American Indigenous Prophecy
The world as a series of cleansed worlds: the Hopi Purification and the Great Spirit Massauu's repeated remaking of the earth, the Lakota White Buffalo Calf Woman's promise of renewal — prophecies nearly identical in shape, told on the same continent for centuries.
The North American indigenous prophecies are the archive's closest cousins to the Jewish prophets: a covenant, a corruption, a cleansing, a remnant, and a promised return. The Hopi and Lakota tellings run so parallel that elders have long noted the match. See the myth entries for the Purification and the White Buffalo Calf Woman. (Note: much of what circulates as "Hopi prophecy" in English is mediated through contested texts like Frank Waters's Book of the Hopi and internet retellings; the archived entries anchor on the Hopi's own 1992 message to the United Nations.)

The end, in order
- 01The human race has passed through three worlds; each was purified or punished by the Great Spirit for corruption
- 02The fourth world now turns away from the instructions; signs multiply (earthquakes, floods, drought, war)
- 03The Purification approaches: a great cleansing that will remove the corrupt — through fire or flood
- 04Pahana, the lost white brother, returns bearing the sacred stone tablets
- 05The ceremonies resume; the faithful who kept the word survive into the fifth world
- 06In the Lakota telling, the White Buffalo Calf Woman returns; the sacred pipe is found again; renewal follows
What survives
The faithful who kept the instructions — the people of the land and those who join them — into a renewed fifth world.
