Italy
The empire that Revelation saw as the beast — and the city that later claimed the end's keys.
Europedrafted
Rome is the shadow in the Book of Revelation: the beast with seven heads, Babylon the Great, the empire that John of Patmos expected to fall when the end came. And Rome is also where the end was later administered — the Papacy as the interpreter of last things, the Vatican's authority over the calendar of salvation. The same city appears in the archive twice: as the predicted ruin and as the keeper of the prediction.
